After defeating Honduras, Mexico advances to the Gold Cup and the Nations League semifinals.

Reuters, Mexico City, November 19 With a 4-0 victory over Honduras in the second leg of their quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Mexico guaranteed their spot in both the Gold Cup and the Concacaf Nations League semifinals.

After losing the first leg 2-0, Mexico won the match thanks to goals from Raúl Jiménez, Jorge Sánchez, and Henry Martín twice, for a total score of 4-2.

 

 


 

In the 42nd minute, Jimenez completed a strong cross from Jesus Orozco to give Mexico the lead.

In the 72nd minute, Jiménez headed in a corner kick from the right wing, and Henry Martín, who had just entered the game, scored the second goal with his left foot in the six-yard box.

In the 85th minute, Jorge Sánchez scored Mexico's third goal with a strong right-footed shot inside the area after using his chest to control a cross from Alexis Vega.

Henry Martín's penalty kick in the 96th minute gave Mexico the lead.

 

 

 

The United States, the current Nations League champion, advanced to the semifinals with a 5-2 aggregate score, while Panama advanced with a 3-2 aggregate score.

On March 20, the Nations League semi-finals will take place at SoFi Stadium in California. Three days later, the third-place game and final will take place.

June 14–July 6, 2025, is when the Gold Cup will take place.
